The School of Nursing is designed to provide pathways to the various stages of nursing careers. The Nursing programs offered at O.I.U take a comprehensive approach to education, aiming to produce graduates who possess both clinical competence and a strong foundation in the values and principles of the nursing profession. By focusing on patient-centered care, advocacy for patient safety, collaboration in healthcare teams, leadership development, and a commitment to lifelong learning, the program aims to prepare graduates who can make a positive impact in the nursing field and contribute to the well-being of patients and communities.
O.I.U offers a 4-year BSN, 2-year Associate Degree, and preparation for both the NCLEX-PN and NCLEX-RN. The programs cover core nursing, including clinical and general education courses. Year 1 prepares students to write the NCLEX-PN examination. Year 2 prepares students who have passed the NCLEX-PN to write the NCLEX-RN and may graduate with an associate degree in nursing. Years 3 and 4 provide students the opportunity to continue studies and training in the field of Nursing and graduate with the Bachelor of Nursing Degree (BSN). The Institute will arrange for students to have clinical assignments with Hospitals and other healthcare institutions for competency assessments during their studies and training.
The Practical Nursing Program (PN) is a comprehensive and intensive education and training program which can be completed within one year. It is designed to prepare individuals to become licensed practical nurses. PNs play a vital role in healthcare by providing direct patient care under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians.
The PN program equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe and competent nursing care as licensed practical nurses. By combining classroom learning and clinical experiences, the program prepares graduates to work in various healthcare settings, contribute to patient care, and support the healthcare team in delivering quality healthcare services.
The Registered Nurse Program (RN) is an 18-month to two-year program that offers you a wide range of career possibilities and work environments and the ability to work directly and hands-on with patients at all levels, from infants to the elderly or geriatric care. Upon successful completion of the RN Program, a student earns their associate degree in nursing (ADN) and can write and pass the NCLEX-RN examination to become a licensed Registered Nurse.
Additionally, nurses who have earned their associate degree in nursing are able to pursue additional certifications in specialty areas through the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other national agencies including but not limited to – Ambulatory Care Nursing, Anesthesiology, Cardiac Vascular Nursing, Gerontological Nursing, Medical Surgical Nursing, Nursing Case Management, Pain Management Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing
