Applying To OIU as A Transfer Student

US applicants must submit a Medical School Admissions Test (MCAT) score as part of their application.

Applicants from outside America are not required to submit an MCAT.

School of Medicine

Transfer Admission

Okyrie International University (OIU)  will consider applications from students seeking transfer from another medical school into the Four-Year Doctor of Medicine program.

School of Medicine Transfer Credit Requirements:
Transfer credit is not automatic and applicants must not assume that courses taken at other institutions will meet OIU-SOM requirements. Acceptance of transfer credit is subject to verification and approval by the Academic Committee and subject to availability of classes. Each transfer student application is carefully reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Due to great variability in the academic backgrounds of transfer students, the requirements and deadlines set forth by the Committee may differ from student to student.

Entry Options:

Entry into Basic Science 
Basic Sciences Transfer Applicants

Transfer students who have completed part of the basic sciences coursework will be placed in the appropriate term of the basic sciences curriculum. The level of placement in the curriculum will be determined by the Academic Committee.

Entry into Clinical Science (Year 3)
Students who have completed or are in the process of finishing their pre-clinical coursework at another medical school and are eligible for or have passed the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE Step 1) have the opportunity to be considered for transfer into OIU Year 3: Clinical Training. As part of the transfer process, clinical transfer students must take the NBME CBSE and achieve a score of 64 or higher within six months of the interview date at the OIU School of Medicine. They will have up to three attempts to pass the exam, and only upon receiving a minimum passing score of 64 at OIU within the given timeframe will they be allowed to commence clinical rotations.

To be eligible for transfer, students must be in the process of completing or have successfully completed all pre-clinical coursework at an accredited medical school within a four-year curriculum.

Start dates for entry into OIU Year 3: Clinical Training is scheduled at six-week intervals throughout the year.

Upon acceptance, all OIU students, including transfer applicants entering Year 3, are required to complete 82 weeks of clinical studies, which include 48 weeks of core rotations, 10 weeks of research, and 24 weeks of electives. Clinical training is offered at OIU-affiliated hospitals, the core rotations cover Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Psychiatry, and Family Medicine.

Upon successful completion of all academic requirements in Years 3 and 4, students will become eligible to receive a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from OIU.

Acceptance of transfer credit is subject to verification and approval by the Academic Committee and subject tothe  availability of classes. Each transfer student application is carefully reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Due to great variability in the academic backgrounds of transfer students, the requirements and deadlines set forth by the Committee may differ from student to student.
