Description

The Clinical Science phase in a Doctor of Medicine (MD) program is the practical and hands-on portion of medical education. It follows the Basic Science phase and focuses on applying the knowledge gained during the earlier stage to real patient care. The Clinical Years consist of five terms for a total of 72 weeks, including 10 weeks of research.

The specific sequence of core rotations is not predetermined in this listing. Instead, the hospital determines the core rotation schedules at the time of the student’s admission to the clinical program. Generally, students complete their core rotations before engaging in elective rotations.

Core rotations are typically fulfilled during the 3rd year, preceding elective rotations. This structure ensures that students acquire essential competencies before venturing into more specialized or technical aspects of clinical practice.

After completing each core rotation, students must take the Clinical Assessment Test (shelf exam) to demonstrate their basic level of competence based on their experiences and exposure during that particular rotation.

In total, students are required to complete 48 weeks of mandatory core rotations, as outlined below.
