Description

The MD program encompasses two distinct phases: Basic Sciences | Pre-Clinicals and Clinical Science.

During the initial phase of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) curriculum, known as the Basic Science phase, students will actively participate in traditional didactic lectures and laboratory sessions. This phase serves as a foundational pillar, equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles underpinning medical sciences. The purpose of this phase is to establish a solid knowledge base before learners progress to the practical clinical environment. To augment their learning experience, students will also engage in small-group sessions and case-based learning exercises, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Upon transitioning to Year 3 and Year 4, the Clinical Science phase will immerse students in invaluable hands-on training at prestigious healthcare institutions affiliated with the program, both in the United States and Guyana. This immersive training will involve the supervision and mentorship of experienced medical professionals, allowing students to partake in bedside teaching and cultivate their clinical acumen. Complementing the practical training, students will also benefit from lectures, small-group discussions, and directed study, which further enrich their medical knowledge and clinical competencies.
