Linden, Guyana – July 18, 2025 – The Linden Medical Network (LMN) was officially launched on Friday, July 18, 2025, by Student Doctor Serina Roberts, in collaboration with Orinduik International University (OIU). The initiative marks an important milestone in medical education and community healthcare, providing a dynamic platform that connects science students, medical students, and healthcare professionals in Linden and surrounding regions.
The Linden Medical Network is designed as an interdisciplinary hub that promotes academic development, mentorship, and meaningful community engagement. Its mission is to connect learners and professionals in science and healthcare fields, fostering knowledge exchange, academic success, and long-term community impact. The vision is to create a collaborative, student-centred network that builds the next generation of healthcare leaders through education, outreach, and service.
Speaking at the launch, Roberts emphasised the importance of equipping young people with both academic resources and professional guidance. She highlighted that the LMN will not only prepare students for careers in healthcare but also encourage them to contribute meaningfully to underserved communities.
The platform offers a wide range of features, including an online resource portal, discussion forums, event calendars, job and internship boards, and a networking hub for students and professionals. A mobile app and WhatsApp groups will provide real-time communication and support.
Among its key programs are medical outreach initiatives such as vaccination drives, health screenings, and mental health campaigns. The LMN will also facilitate study groups, mentorship programs, specialised courses, and certifications. Additionally, it will launch school outreach programs to inspire younger students to pursue careers in healthcare and to build awareness about key health issues.
The structure of the LMN includes an executive team, an advisory board of healthcare professionals, and opportunities for members to assume leadership roles. Membership is available at tiered rates for high school students, medical students, and healthcare professionals, with benefits ranging from access to resources and events to volunteer and internship opportunities. The network will also rely on sponsorships, grants, and fundraising to support its activities.
The launch of the LMN reflects a forward-looking partnership between Roberts (a student currently attending OIU) and the university, with the shared goal of strengthening medical education and healthcare engagement in Guyana. While the initial focus will be on the Linden community, the long-term plan is to expand the network’s programs and outreach across neighbouring towns, making it a cornerstone of healthcare collaboration in the country.
